Auzy, a deaf student, has been a unique blessing to the Wildwood Summer Project. His presence brings new logistical challenges but it has been great to learn about the deaf community, a largely unreached people group in the US.
Auzy met Joe, a local man who is also deaf, at a church in the Wildwood area. Joe had significant Christian background and had been attending this church for about a year. However, like many deaf people, because of communication barriers and isolation in the deaf community, he had never come to truly grasp the Gospel even as a regular church attendee. When Auzy and Joe met, their common bond facilitated a quick connection. Auzy asked the simple question, “What did you think of the sermon?” and from Joe’s answer grasped that he didn’t truly understand the heart of the Gospel.
The conversation continued and Auzy was able to clearly explain the Gospel. Joe put his faith in Christ that afternoon! Since then Auzy has continued to meet with him to discuss foundational aspects of the Christian life.
