A Facebook page at the University of Nebraska– Omaha has been started called “UNO Confessions.” This page is dedicated for students to anonymously confess whatever is on their mind. Some confessions are superficial, selfish and ridiculous; but others are weightier, more real and transparent. Whether serious or trivial, when students feel the freedom to be honest and authentic their need for Jesus is very evident. They’re desperately seeking something or someone to meet their needs– acceptance, love, recognition. Students are walking to class everyday hurting, confused, angry, lost, and scared. Many of them hiding behind the “I’ve got it all together” smile on their faces.
“I find it hard to make friends. I have little self confidence about the way I talk, so I don’t talk in class at all.”
“I haven’t had sex in over two years. I just want to find an attractive guy to have HOT PASSIONATE SEX WITH!”
“Even though it’s the 21st century, I find it annoying that more guys don’t take the initiative and just ask girls out.”
“I’ve been cutting class and plan to move to Colorado with my band next fall and I don’t know how to tell my parents.”
The confessions on this page are a good reminder to us that students at UNO (and the whole Omaha metro area) need Jesus. God has placed us on staff with Cru in Omaha, NE so we can be faithful to the job He’s given us— to introduce students to the One who sees and knows them; to the One who accepts them for who they are; to the One who so desperately loves them He gave His life for them.
Jesus is the Someone they need. The Someone they’re seeking.
“The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty One who will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness; He will quiet you by His love; He will exult over you with loud singing.” Zeph. 3:17
