AsherThis month we want to share our pregnancy journey with you. Before I (Chelsea) begin, our hearts deeply hurt for any couple struggling to get pregnant. It’s a painful, frustrating, sometimes, lonely road to travel. We trust God will use our story to encourage your heart.

As you may know, we’re expecting our first child on November 12, 2012. You may not know we had been trying to get pregnant for over two years, during which we lost a baby to an ectopic pregnancy. We saw several different doctors, tried various fertility drugs, went through a barrage of testing, modified our diet, and I saw an acupuncturist.

In December of 2011, our doctor recommended exploratory laparoscopic surgery. All the tests we’d gone through were coming back “normal” and there wasn’t an obvious medical reason to explain why we weren’t getting pregnant. We prayed and felt at peace scheduling the surgery. The first available opening was March 16, 2012.

On March 12, 2012 we went to Creighton Hospital for pre-op work, which included routine blood work. The nurse said she’d call if anything was concerning, otherwise she would see us bright and early Friday morning. A couple hours later, I received a phone call from the nurse. She said, “Well, you can’t come in for surgery on Friday because you’re pregnant.” Total shock! We’d been trying, praying, hoping for over two years, and four days before surgery we find out we’re expecting a baby! Immediately, I started crying, hung up the phone and called Lee. He was equally shocked, as was everyone else we told.

I’m now in my third trimester and there are still days we’re amazed and in awe of God’s plan and perfect timing. THANK-YOU to everyone who prayed for us as we walked through a season of infertility. We’re super excited to meet our son- Asher Lee Bickerstaff- in a few months.
